So, in English, we had to pick a song about a social issue then make a poster. The only added writing allowed was the name and artist of the song, as well as a single quote. My song was Cut by Plumb. Here is my commentary:
The mood of this song is of a negative nature, with sadness and desperation being prominent. This is conveyed in the language the artist uses. I have attempted to convey it using colour. Black is the most prominent colour, representing the darkness of the song. Black is a negative colour, with connotations to sadness, fear and desperation. It is associated with these emotions because of the fear of the dark most people have, at least as children. What people fear about the dark is that you can’t see what’s in it. This fear relates to this because when you self harm, most people can’t see it, can’t see that something is wrong. The majority of this poster is black and white. In the top right picture, there is a girl who, unlike the other body parts, has cream skin. She has no scars, and the colour to her skin represents her life and innocence, while her curled up posture shows her fear, as if she is fighting the urge. The other people have white skin, symbolising they have given in, and their white skin is the lack of life that remains, and the closer to suicide they are coming. The only other colour is red, the colour of blood, almost as if the life is literally dripping from the cuts. I used the rose to represent the general type of person who self harms. They are beautiful people, and everyone but themselves can see that. They create a shield, a barrier of thorns, making it hard to get close to them. They tend to hurt you when you get too close, in an effort to protect both themselves and you. They don’t always mean to hurt you, but they do.
